The University of the West of England (UWE) is a modern university in Bristol with roots dating back to the 16th century Bristol Society of Merchant Venturers’ Navigation School. UWE now boasts almost 27,000 students, 4,000 of them are foreign students from 140 different countries. Over 600 courses are available at the undergraduate, postgraduate, professional, and short course levels, with a diverse topic portfolio that includes the arts, creative industries, health, science, business, law, the environment, and technology. UWE includes three sites in and around Bristol, as well as other campuses throughout Gloucestershire, and is organized around 14 departments. It also provides courses through local study partners as well as a number of worldwide partner institutions. Recent large-scale investment in its infrastructure has resulted in a new Students’ Union as well as cutting-edge study rooms and dormitories, which are now under construction.
